Special projects of the Estonian Language House
Activities that support language learning
Special projects of the Estonian Language House
Every year, we offer Estonian language learners the opportunity to participate in a unique special project to encourage the use of the Estonian language through joint developmental activities.
We carefully select the topics of special projects so that they are relevant both in society and for Estonian language learners: nature and environment, art and culture, technology and innovation, and community life and social inclusion.
The special projects help develop both language skills and social contacts, and thus social cohesion. Through joint activities, friendships are formed, confidence in communicating in Estonian increases, and participants better understand Estonian culture and life. Participants will gain useful knowledge and experience that can be applied in everyday life and at work.
The special projects are carried out under the leadership of the Estonian Language House. We will announce the opportunities to participate in special projects via our website and social media.
Examples of previous special projects:
Garden Fairies Spring School (Aiahaldjate kevadkool)
The Garden Fairies Spring School combined language learning and gardening, offering participants the opportunity to create dream gardens in Narva. Teachers from Hiiumaa Vocational School shared their knowledge, Juhani Nursery School provided the necessary tools, and language learners were able to build their dream gardens in the Narva Art Residency community garden. The gardens were evaluated by experts, and the creators of the best gardens received awards.

Film Academy and the film Choice (Valik)
The Integration Foundation’s Estonian Language House implemented a bold and ambitious language learning project – its own film academy, which was followed by the creation and big screen premiere of a real feature film, Valik (Choice). Participants attended the Film Academy of the Estonian Language House and gained new knowledge in the field of filmmaking, studied acting, and, of course, practised their Estonian. The lecturers were established professionals in the Estonian theatre and film world, such as Martin Junna, Leana Jalukse, Aita Vaher, Eva Kübar, Sandra Lange, and Rauno Kaibiainen. The Film Academy produced the film Choice, which premiered at the opening ceremony of the PÖFF special festival KinoFF in Kohtla-Järve. After the premiere, the film was also screened in Apollo cinemas in several Estonian cities.
