How do we support learning Estonian?

How do we support learning Estonian?

By participating in cultural and leisure activities, you can develop your Estonian language skills while learning about Estonian culture, history, and nature.

The activities include:

  • Visits to museums and exhibitions: Estonian-language guided tours that reveal fascinating aspects of Estonian history and art.
  • Tours and field trips during which you can discover new places in every corner of Estonia and learn about local culture and everyday life.
  • Sports and outdoor activities: joint activities allow you to practice the language in a friendly atmosphere.
  • Cultural events and workshops: participating in theatre or music events and related discussion groups helps to practice communication in real-life situations.
  • Hobby activities and social clubs: you can practice Estonian in hobby groups or discussion nights.

Objectives:

  • Language practice: you can comfortably practice Estonian by speaking and listening in everyday situations.
  • Building confidence: through consistent participation, you can significantly increase your confidence in communicating in Estonian.
  • New acquaintances: language learners expand their circle of communication in Estonian.
  • Connection with Estonia: by getting to know local customs, lifestyle, and nature, you can strengthen your connection with the Estonian cultural space.

Who can participate?

All adult Estonian language learners, i.e. long-term residents, returnees, and newly arrived immigrants, regardless of their language proficiency level. However, it is recommended to have basic knowledge of the language to get the most out of the events and discussions.

How to participate?

We organise the activities both online and across Estonia, for example in Jõhvi, Narva, Sillamäe, Tallinn, Paldiski, and Kiviõli.

Language learners can choose activities that are suitable for them based on time, place, and topic. Registration is required to participate. It is possible to cancel your participation in the self-service environment up to one day before the activity.

How is it organised?

We organise the activities with both the team of the Estonian Language House and cooperation partners, whom we involve through public procurement.

Where can I find more information?

We publish detailed information about the activities in the calendar.

How to register?

You can choose a suitable activity and register for it in the self-service environment.
